July 29, 2008 | DUBOIS, IL The DuPage County Dragons toppled the Dubois County Bombers on Tuesday night by a score of 5-2 in sweltering heat. The Dragons struck first with a run in the top of the second on a Dave Reynolds RBI, scoring Pete Capetta who reached on a triple off of Bombers’ starter Matt Nichols.
The Bombers retaliated in the bottom half with a run of their own after Mike Schwartz scored on an error by the shortstop.
DuPage tacked on two runs in the top of the third on a Reynolds RBI double that plated Mark Noth and Justin Wilson. Their lead would increase to 5-1 in the top of the fifth as Reynolds struck again with an RBI single. Justin Behm drove home the other run.
Dubois County added a run in the seventh as a Wes Fink doubled to the wall scored Sam Konnoff who reached on an error. The run cut the lead to 5-2, the final score.
Tom Zelasko (3-2) picked up the win after firing 6 1/3 innings allowing three hits and only a single run. Tom Filip closed out the game in relief.
Starter Matt Nichols (0-5) suffered the loss for the Bombers after allowing eight hits and five runs (three earned) in 4 1/3 innings of work. Jarrett Casey entered in relief and fired 4 2/3 innings to close out the game.
Reynolds led the Dragons with two hits and four RBIs. Wilson added two singles. Zach Rowles topped the Bombers, finishing with two hits.
The same two teams meet tonight at 6:30 in Huntingburg, Indiana.
