Dragons Tie for First with Win

July 23, 2008 | QUINCY, IL Dragons Tie for First with win a third inning full of miscues along with a strong pitching performance by DuPage Dragon starter Andrew Beatty combined to hand the Quincy Gems a 1-0 loss at home in the Gems first action since the All-Star break.

A two out single by Mark Noth got things started for the Dragons in the third. A pick off attempt at first base was lost and rolled away allowing Noth to move to second. Then Gems pitcher Greg Hellhake threw back to back wild pitches, allowing Noth to take third base and score.

The Gems were held hitless until the fourth inning and managed just three hits for the entire game. Hellhake suffers the loss for Quincy going seven innings and allowing one run, unearned, on five hits with five strikeouts.
Andrew Beatty picked up the win going eight innings and allowing no runs on just three hits while striking out seven. Tom Zalasko pitched a perfect ninth inning to record the save.
